Year 12 Reference Application Form

Year 12 2016 at Maitland High School is a collegial group of students who demonstrate talents in a wide range of subjects and interests.

They have demonstrated commitment and dedication to their academic studies and this was recognised at our recent Merit Assembly where 45 students were presented with Senior Merit Awards. Our musically gifted Year 12 students performed beautifully at this ceremony.

Year 12 students have taken on mentoring roles for junior students, with our Prefects attending Year 7 Camp at Point Wollstonecraft in an effort to build relationships. They are also active participants in school programs including Pink “antibullying “Day and volunteer their time to ensure that our vital ‘Breakfast Club’ can operate five days a week. This ensures that our students have the energy they require to engage in learning to the best of their ability.

At Maitland High School our aim is develop well rounded young people who contribute to their local community. Our 2016 cohort, led by our Prefect group, have co-ordinated successful fundraising “Superhero Day” for Beyond Blue, raising more than $1300. They have represented the school proudly at Remembrance Day and Anzac Day services. Maitland High is the only school to attend all four Anzac Day services.
Many of our students are completing VET subjects as part of their HSC and are participating in a range of work placements that will prepare them for careers after school. Our Year 12 students have attended numerous enrichment excursions to supplement their academic studies including visits to the ANSTO nuclear facility at Lucas Heights, theatrical performances , Hunter Valley vineyards, Powerhouse Museum and Taronga Zoo to attend marketing seminars.
As the Trial HSC examinations approach, students are encouraged to maintain their focus in class and work consistently towards achieving their goals. It is quite usual for Year 12 to be feeling stress at this time of year. All students are reminded to seek support if required. There are numerous avenues of support available, including classroom teachers, Year Advisor and Deputy Principal. Our Student Support Officer, Eliza is currently running a stress management course for any interested students.
